Wilson's popularity travelled into the US in 2014, when she appeared in Showtimes The Affair. She played Alison Lockhart, a young woman who has a difficult background and falls in love with Noah Solloway. The show also starring Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson was a hit among viewers and critics alike and won Wilson a Golden Globe for Best Actress in an Television Series Drama in 2015. Wilson said in British Vogue: "I love that I can play characters in two perspectives." Noah perceives Alison as a confident sexy character. She sees herself in a totally different way which from the inside is dowdy and in the shadows and not wanting to stand out. The actress said "I think America is a moral nation and they're so critical. The way they conduct themselves in the show appears horrifying." Wilson's exit on the show shocked a number of her fans in 2018. However, she remained cryptic about further details. In 2016, she starred in the horror film I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the house. She also played the obscure PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi rom com How to Talk to Girls at Parties. She will be adding another horror film to her credits when she is in The Little Stranger, a British adaptation of The Little Stranger, a supernatural thriller based upon the novel by Sarah Waters. Wilson is also the executive producer of The film.
